On a night dedicated to honoring its seniors, the Miamisburg Vikings gave fans a thrilling and hard-fought contest against the visiting Wayne Warriors. Despite ultimately falling 18-14, the Vikings showed grit, heart, and no signs of letting up as they went toe-to-toe with one of the area’s most talented teams. Wayne struck first with a touchdown on their opening drive, but the Miamisburg defense quickly responded, clamping down and holding the Warriors to their lowest offensive output of the season.
The Vikings’ first-half highlight came courtesy of their defense, when senior Nolan Ennis scooped up a fumble caused by Blake Courtney’s sack and returned it for a touchdown. That play energized the home crowd and brought Miamisburg within striking distance, trailing just 9-7 at the half. The third quarter saw a rare safety go Wayne’s way on a punt mishap, but the Vikings answered in a big way, scoring to take a 14-11 lead early in the fourth quarter.
Wayne managed to swing momentum back in their favor with a gutsy fake punt conversion that extended a crucial drive, leading to what would be the game-winning touchdown. Still, the Vikings weren’t done yet. The offense mounted one final push deep into Warrior territory, but a sack on fourth down dashed hopes of a comeback. Though the result wasn’t in their favor, the effort and determination shown by Miamisburg left little doubt about this team's heart.
Now sitting at 1-7, the Vikings remain focused and resilient, refusing to give in despite a tough season. With a key road matchup at Northmont on deck, Miamisburg looks to turn the corner and get back into the win column. If Friday night’s performance is any indication, this team still has plenty of fight left.
